Welcome to the Picture of the Day
This site started as a personal project I've been trying to bring to life for over 10 years. It started in 2010 when I began posting a picture daily on my blog. I did that for 5 years before life got in the way and I started missing posts. I've been trying on and off ever since to get back to it, but I haven't managed for more than a few weeks. I had always wanted to write a site to streamline the posting process, even going so far as registering the domain, PictureOfTheDay.ca, but I never had time or the drive to actually write the site. When I look back and see the posts from the five years, I wish I had more. Of course, I can go to any of the online photo backups I use, to see the photos I took on any given day, but the act of choosing a photo, and writing a brief description can be much more interesting than just a grid of random photos.
Now it's open to the internet, create an account and start capturing a moment of your day. The site is open to anyone, but remember this is a family-friendly site and I will remove inappropriate images. While I want more users, I don't want to over burden the site, so right now after your account is created, I have to give your user permissions to post. I will do that as quickly as I can.
Privacy, maybe you want to start your picture of the day journey but aren't sure about sharing your photos with the world. That's understandable. Currely I have 4 privacy settings for your pictures:
- Public, visible to everyone visiting the site, or views your profile.
- Private, visible only to you. (And while I strive to keep them private, posting your pictures on this site, I will not guarantee they will remain private.)
- Friends, not implemented yet, but when implemented will only show the photo to users of the site you selected as friends.
- Shared, not implemented yet. Will show up in your profile and anyone with a direct link can view it, but will not show up on the main page.
Remeber, this site is a work in progress, not all features are implemented and there are probably be some bugs.
